Xth Sense: Incarnated Sound and Biophysical Music

Weaving a thread around biomedia research, musical and theatrical performance, participatory practices and subversive coding, Marco looks at the collision of critical creativity with humanized technologies.

Marco will perform Music for Flesh II, an interactive music piece for enhanced body, and Nascent, a carnal sound sculpture. The works are based on the Xth Sense, a free and open biophysical technology, named the 2012 “world's most innovative new musical instrument” by the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology, US (1st Prize in the Guthman New Musical Instrument Competition).

He has performed and spoken in 28 countries worldwide, and his works have been selected at leading art events (ISEA, Venice Biennale, WRO Biennale), specialized festivals (Sonorities, Némo, Piksel, Re-New, Laboral, BEAM, Mapping, EMAF), and academic conferences (NIME, ICMC, SARC, Pure Data Convention, Linux Audio Conference, SICMF). Funded by the European Commission, Creative Scotland, New Media Scotland and the Danish Arts Council. Has been artist in residence at Inspace (UK) and the National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance (DK). He is currently travelling, teaching and playing on the US East Coast in the frame of the Incarnated Sound Tour 2012.
