Roshi Nasehi

I'm Roshi a Welsh born musician of Iranian parentage living in London.

I grew up in a seaside town in South Wales where I sang daily as a child a combo of 80s pop, songs from musicals and Welsh folk at school and local choirs. At home my folks played old tapes of Iranian folk and pop music and my dad resumed traditional violin playing, which influenced early compositions. I also learned piano and in 1997 went to music conservatory in Cardiff where I got interested in Jazz experimental and Avant Garde music.

I moved to London in 2000 and before long, put together my main music project 'Roshi Featuring Pars Radio' with awesome and very prolific percussionist/ producer Graham 'Gagarin' Dowdall. We've made quite a few records which have had decent radio play and nice press, one of my favourite quotes being 'Iranian Balladry meets Welsh Futurism' from Impose Mag. Over the years I've managed to develop a track record in electro-acoustic live performance, collaboration, recording and music workshops.

Particularly fun commissions include a live score for acrobatic driven Circus piece Backgammon For Beginners 2012/2013 and for a Mary Pickford comedy from 1918 'Amarilly Of Clothes Line Alley' for the 2012 Southbank WOW festival.

I also work on community and social intervention projects with different groups including kids, elders, and refugees and like to join in with a bit of community and even semi-guerilla gardening when I can.

I was in Kuwait in January because I've got a commission to make public Sound Art there this year which I'm super excited about, though a little nervous too.

Very glad to be at Share in March which my London friend/colleague accordionist/composer Matt Scott recommended.

I'll be playing a few tracks I created for the acrobats with my voice and loop pedal and also a bit of the Mary Pickford Score too before joining in (if you'll have me) with voice and effects in the jam.
